Dear Students and Families,

I want to thank the Woonsocket School Committee, the Central Office Administration, teachers and most importantly our students for their continued support. As a career educator for over thirty years I am grateful for the opportunity to serve as principal of Woonsocket High School. Our focus is to create a community that is  Respectful, Responsible, and Safe.  Over the past year teachers, administrators and students have established these core values and continue to work to improve the culture and climate at WHS and WACTC. This work is being done through a lens of diversity, equity, and inclusion to cultivate a “Sense of Belonging” for all staff and students. Positive Behavioral Interventions and Supports are being applied with a restorative mindset to help guide staff and students.

Last spring Woonsocket High School was identified as in need of Comprehensive School Improvement or CSI. This is due to our graduation rate and proficiency levels in Math and English Language Arts. Since that time we have developed a Strategic Plan, Comprehensive School Improvement Plan, enlisted outside resources and secured funding from the Rhode Island Department of Education (RIDE). This support from the Teaching and Learning Alliance, New England Base Camp and RIDE is ongoing with regular professional development as well as progress monitoring and site visits. I am certain that this cycle of continuous improvement will prove to be effective in raising our proficiency levels as well as graduation rates.

It is with great optimism that I accept the responsibility of moving our school forward. In order to be successful we all need to work together to make WHS and WACTC the best it can be! I look forward to working with all of you to make a difference in the lives of our students. If I can be of any further assistance please feel free to contact me directly.

Respectfully,

Brian S. Ernest
